Brittney Gibson of Potsdam Central School District, a student in the Health Careers program at the Seaway Career & Technical Education Center, is the September recipient of the Potsdam Rotary Club’s “Rev. William R. and Crystal E. Cuthbert Vocational Excellence Award Sponsored by Brookfield Renewable N.A.” Gibson is the child of Samantha Harvin.
At a Rotary meeting honoring Gibson, she met with Potsdam Rotarians and was commended for her academic excellence by Seaway Tech instructor Stephanie Hill.

“Brittney is a kind and compassionate young woman who always goes out of her way to make everyone in our class feel included,” said Hill. “She comes to school every day with a smile on her face.  Her commitment to our program is evident, not only in her academic performance, but in her service to Seaway Tech as a student leader representing our senior class and her membership in the National Technical Honor Society. Brittney is a dedicated and well-rounded student who is bound for success.”

Students in the two-year Health Careers program gain knowledge that helps to build a foundation to pursue a career as a certified nursing assistant or healthcare professional.

They learn concepts of health and wellness, nutrition and patient care, and medical terminology as well as anatomy and physiology.  Students also acquire the skills and gain hands-on clinical experience to be eligible to sit for the NYS Nurse Aide certification exam.  College credit opportunities exist within the program with the potential of earning 26 college credits.

The Potsdam Rotary Club meets at noon at the Potsdam Town Hall community room every Wednesday. Guests are welcome. Find out more at potsdamrotary.org.
