Caden Liebfred, a student in the Building Trades program at the Seaway Career & Technical Education Center, is the March recipient of the Potsdam Rotary Club’s “Rev. William R. and Crystal E. Cuthbert Vocational Excellence Award Sponsored by Brookfield Renewable U.S.” Liebfred is the child of Michael and Jodi Liebfred.
At a Rotary luncheon honoring Liebfred, he met with Potsdam Rotarians and was commended for his academic excellence by Seaway Tech instructor Larry Ashley.
“Caden is kind, hardworking and honest,” said Ashley. “His problem-solving skills, coupled with his attention to detail, will help him be successful in any career he chooses.”
Students in the two-year Building Trades program are taught an understanding of the basic theories of carpentry and residential electrical, which are then applied to the building project. A complete house is built on site and sold each year. The areas of study include safe use of hand and power tools, framing techniques, plumbing, roofing, siding, sheetrock installation, exterior and interior finishing, stair construction, and cabinet installation. College credits are available as well.
While attending Building Trades, Liebfred has represented the program by being a student leader. He has earned his OSHA 10 certification and WARDFlex training. Upon successful completion of the national written and practical exam, he will receive his NOCTI certification. All of this will allow him to be employable in the carpentry field.
