Christina Delorenzo of Potsdam and Ashley Kalman-Smith of Massena have been named the inaugural “Rookie Rotarians of the Year” by the Rotary Club of Potsdam.
The new “Rookie Rotarian of the Year” award was created by Potsdam Rotary’s board of directors to recognize new Rotarians who have made a special effort as members. Criteria include membership for six months to three years, exemplary attendance, and participation in events and projects.
Both recipients received framed certificates as well as 250 Paul Harris Fellow recognition points, which will take them one-quarter of the way to their next Paul Harris Fellow recognition.
“Both these women have exemplified what it means to ‘hit the ground running’ as novice Rotarians,” said Awards Chair Mary Sue Foster. “Both have not only participated in the usual Rotary events, but have also spearheaded many initiatives. We honor them this evening for being driving forces behind the Peace Pole in Garner Park, the First Saturday in Potsdam Mental Health Awareness Program, the multi-club Polio Walk, and other efforts.
“Serving our community without need for acknowledgment is what Rotary is all about. We offer you both our acknowledgment for a job well done. Thank you, Ashley and Christina.”
The Potsdam Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at noon at the Potsdam Town Hall. Guests are welcome.
