Shawn Seymour of Hannawa Falls was recently recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Potsdam at its annual meeting. He was honored for his demonstrated commitment to the goals and purposes of Rotary and "in appreciation of his tangible assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world."
A retired senior accountant at Clarkson University, he joined Potsdam Rotary in 2007 and has served on its board and as treasurer since 2008.

Seymour chairs the Potsdam Rotary Duck Pluck, has chaired or co-chaired several wine/beer/food tasting events, and works on virtually every Rotary project and program, including the Potsdam Holiday Fund food baskets, Wheelchair Challenge, annual scholarship golf tournament, Dodge Pond projects, and School's Out summer food drive.

Since his retirement, Seymour has expanded his service activities, volunteering at both the Best Friends Thrift Shop for the Potsdam Humane Society and at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

A retired Certified Public Accountant and native of Watertown, Seymour received his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Clarkson.

He resides in Hannawa Falls with his wife, Laura Cordts.

One-thousand dollars has been donated in Seymour's name to the Rotary Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.

The contribution honoring him will be used for projects like saving the lives of children through immunization, bringing water to remote global villages, or establishing hospitals in underdeveloped countries.

The Potsdam Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at noon at the Potsdam Town Hall community room in Potsdam and online. Guests are welcome.
