Maureen Farina of Potsdam was recognized on June 25 as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Potsdam.  Farina was honored for her demonstrated commitment to the goals and purposes of Rotary and "in appreciation of her tangible assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world."

One-thousand dollars has also been donated by the Club in Farina's name to the Rotary Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.  The contribution honoring Farina will be used for projects like saving the lives of children through immunization, bringing water to remote global villages, or  the establishment of hospitals in under-developed countries.

Farina recently retired from a 25-year career in non-profit and higher education development and administration.  In addition to Rotary, which she joined in 2009, she has volunteered with various community groups and her church. She is currently a board member of the Potsdam Holiday Fund and a volunteer for the Potsdam Coop Membership Committee.  In the past, she has been a member of the board of the St. Lawrence County Arts Council, and the Potsdam Public Library, and a past board member and volunteer of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley and the Potsdam Central School.
