Doug Fry of Morristown and Ashley Kalman-Smith of Massena were recently inducted as members of the Rotary Club of Potsdam. Fry is the general manager of Casella Waste Systems in Potsdam. Kalman-Smith is a personal lines sales executive at Northern Insuring Agency in Potsdam.
Fry has been in the waste industry for 36 years and has been deployed 10 times for hurricane/disaster relief clean-ups like Hurricane Katrina, and several clean-ups in Florida, Texas, Missouri, and Georgia.

Fry and his wife of 37 years, Stacy, were foster parents and involved in youth ministry for eight years in Indiana. He served as a youth pastor for two years at Oak Grove United Methodist church. He was also a high school basketball official for 13 years.

The Frys have two adult children, Brittany and Andrew.

Kalman-Smith recently made the move from the beautiful village of Lake Placid to Potsdam, bringing with her a strong sense of community and a passion for helping others. At Northern Insuring Agency she combines her creativity and determination to provide exceptional service to her clients.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Kalman-Smith enjoys hiking in the Adirondacks with her beloved dog, Dr. Oreo Growen, a half husky/half border collie best friend to all. Her love for animals extends beyond her own – she’s a dedicated animal advocate and supporter of local shelters and rescues.

Giving back is a core value for Kalman-Smith and she is excited to channel that energy into her new roles as a member of Rotary. Though new to the organization, she is eager to get involved and make a meaningful impact in her community.

With a warm heart, driven spirit and a deep connection to the North Country, Kalman-Smith is proud to be part of a region that values both community and natural beauty.

The Potsdam Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at noon at the Potsdam Town Hall. Guests are welcome.
