Paul B. McGrath and Donna J. Mosier of Potsdam were recognized in late June as Paul Harris Fellows by the Rotary Club of Potsdam.

McGrath is a professor of electrical & computer engineering at Clarkson University. Mosier is chair and associate professor in the Department of Business Administration at SUNY Potsdam.

McGrath and Mosier were honored for their demonstrated commitment to the goals and purposes of Rotary and "in appreciation of his tangible assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world."

They each received a commemorative certificate, a Paul Harris Fellow pin, and a medallion.

One-thousand dollars has also been donated in each of their names to the Rotary Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.

The contribution honoring the new Paul Harris Fellows will be used for projects like saving the lives of children through immunization, bringing water to remote global villages, or the establishment of hospitals in under-developed countries.

McGrath lives in the Village of Potsdam with his wife Joan. A daughter, Sarah, resides in Dekalb, and daughter Joanne with grandson George live in Orlando.

After earning a Ph.D. from Queen Mary College in London, McGrath came to Clarkson University and joined the faculty in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

At Clarkson he teaches and performs research in high voltage and electric power engineering, with sponsors that have included the National Science Foundation, the US Air Force, National Grid, and the New York State Energy Research Development Authority. He has served on numerous committees at Clarkson, including being chair of his department in the early 1990s.

McGrath has been a member of the Potsdam Rotary Club for over half of his 30 years of living in Potsdam. He is the chair of the club's Vocational Services committee and has done so continuously for over 10 years.

He is a member of the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Board of Directors, where he has served for 11 years, and is a long-serving member on the Village of Potsdam Airport Committee.

He enjoys flying out of the Potsdam Airport, boating on Norwood Lake and jogging with his dog Nikki.

Born in Potsdam, Mosier has spent most of her life in and around the area. She completed her B.A at SUNY Potsdam majoring in education and history. Mosier earned an MBA, M.S. in Management Systems and Ph.D. at Clarkson University.

Mosier has just completed her 12th year at SUNY Potsdam. She has also taught at Clarkson, Potsdam Central High School and in North Carolina at Elon College, Meredith College, and North Carolina State University.

In 2006, she participated in a two-week faculty exchange to Kherson State University in Ukraine.

Mosier and her late husband, Charlie, became members of the Potsdam Rotary in 1999. Together they quickly volunteered to serve as duck wranglers for the annual Rubber Duck Race. Donna continues to support the race in that capacity and has chaired or co-chaired the Duck Race Committee since 2001.

As club president in 2005-2006, one of Mosier's greatest honors was welcoming Rotary International President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar to Potsdam.

Mosier also served on the St. Lawrence Leadership Institute (SLLI) Board of Directors.

Her son Aaron is a graduate student at the University of Albany. Mosier keeps active by slalom and alpine skiing, skating, kayaking, and hiking with friends.
