Christa Carroll of Potsdam, N.Y., was installed as the 2014-2015 president of the Rotary Club of Potsdam at its annual dinner in June. During the ceremony, Amy Flack was recognized as outgoing president and Amanda Crump was recognized as incoming vice president.

Since November of 2008, Christa Carroll has been a member of the Potsdam Rotary. She holds the firm belief that Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” is a calling that one cannot ignore.  She explains, “When we can see so much illness and poverty around us and throughout our world, we feel compelled to give of ourselves to make the world better. Rotary is special, because we serve locally and abroad and can have such an incredible impact, all of us working together.”

Her committee service within the club includes two annual events: the Duck Pluck and the Scholarship Golf Tournament. These events support local youth via scholarship and special opportunities, and help to fund Potsdam Rotary’s outreach efforts locally and abroad, including disaster relief, literacy support and wheelchair funds. Carroll also has served as webmaster for potsdamrotary.org for about four years.

Carroll has been employed at SUNY Potsdam for more than 15 years, 10 of which she has served in her current role as director of annual giving. Prior to that, she was manager of the college’s Web site. She also has taught for several years at Clarkson University and has worked as a professional consultant in the field of writing and editing.

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Carroll earned her undergraduate degree at Indiana University - Bloomington and her graduate degree at Clemson University, in South Carolina. She is the daughter of Carol and (the late) Arden Chilcote, of Franklin, Ind., and is married to James Carroll. The Carrolls have been a part of the Potsdam community for 20 years.
